Oral yeast infection or oral thrush is a form of yeast infection that develops in your mouth as well as your tongue. The infection is caused by the fungus Candida albicans. At any time, the fungus actually lives in your mouth but at small amounts and without causing any harm. However, if there is an imbalance in microorganisms living in your mouth, possibly through drug use like corticosteroids, antibiotics, or birth control pills, or the development of diseases thereby creating an imbalance, the increase in amounts of the fungus results in oral yeast infection. Since this form of infection is fungal, the use of antifungal becomes necessary for oral yeast infection treatment.
